…they say it’s your birthday…

by humanmama on April 15, 2012

Tomorrow is my birthday. Carpenter gets home late, so we won’t do too much, but my dad was in town this weekend and I am sure my sister and mother will drop by tomorrow. The kids might want to make me cards in the morning, I’ll ask them.

I’vie been sitting here tonight, though, thinking of what I would do if it were 10 years ago, before a family, when I used to work full time? What would I do for my birthday then? Probably go out with friends or something…

But what if I could go back in time? Here’s what I would do:

1.) call off work

2.) go to a spa. Get something done. Mani/pedi, maybe? I would rest assured that any work I would get done wouldn’t be immediately UNdone by my children.

3.) get a drink. I wouldn’t be pregnant, of course, and I am not a really big drinker, but I would absolutely love a mimosa, or something with lunch. Somethin’ to make my day a little fancy.

4.) get a great book for myself. Maybe even support the author and buy a great book. Oooh, my library card just shuddered.

5.) fly somewhere. Why not? I got no kids! I’m free as a bird!

Well, at least, that’s on today’s list. Who knows what I would really do? For real, I am happy to be a year older. It means a year wiser, and definitely some step closer to never being pregnant again, kids. But a mom can dream, can’t she?

What would YOU do if you had a day and some money? Where would you go? Post me a comment and tell me–come on, do it. For my birthday.

Happy day, everyone!

eat every meal out at some of my favorite Pittsburgh restaurants! or take a day trip somewhere serene, quiet, natural but not camping!

Ha! …but NOT camping!

I would have to call up up and treat both of us to a complete day of pampering. It would be followed by dinner out at some swanky restaurant (so there’s no cooking of course!) and then we’d both retire to our own posh rooms at some fancy hotel where would sleep through the entire night (with a late check out to make sure we were well rested!) Happy Birthday my Friend!

Happy Birthday AJ! If I could give you a birthday present, I’d send you on a scavenger hunt that involved Ex boyfriends.

* editor’s note…I had to edit this comment as its from my hilarious friend who lives in China now…in college she sent me in a scavenger hunt for my 21st bday. Most of the clues had to do with old boyfriends from college and were hilarious and mostly inappropriate. Just like me. It was a great day!

My first thought was a nice, quiet road trip by myself, but then I realized that was my mom self talking. So then I thought NYC. Only been there once and I loved it. But I still REALLY want that nice quiet road trip. So I decided on a road trip to Chicago. Art Institute, shopping, walking in the parks and along the lake. There you have it. And now I have to (wait…get to!) go spend my day with 120 teenagers.

Happy birthday, AJ! I hope it’s fabulous!

Oh, that sounds great too! Except for the120 teenagers part ;)

I’m seeing some themes here. On my birthday I do take the day off. I do go get a massage, manicure, pedicure, haircut, get makeup professionally done (or some combination thereof) before having a ritzy lunch with a friend downtown and shopping on the mag mile. Then my husband and I go out to a nice dinner.

Although some years I go the opposite route – for my 29th birthday I told my dad I wanted to go fishing with him and then have him teach me how to clean and gut the fish, then I wanted to cook them and have my own fresh caught fish for my birthday dinner – caught, cleaned, and cooked by my own hand. that was a different kind of nice.

That sounds fantastic! Even the fish gutting, I grew up on a lake…saw a lot of guts!

Happy Birthday.

I’d go to the beach, with a really good book and just lay there watching the waves and nap, a lot. :)

Totally. Sounds great to me!
