Whenever I see a nice house that’s neat and clean, with just the basic essentials on hand and bins for everyone’s toys and shoes and magazines, I think:

What do people do with all their flippin’ PAPERS??!

I need help. I need a babysitting service that can take these little darlings:

And babysit them. In someone else’s house. For 3 days. So I can clean and mulch, organize drawers, maybe finish the basement. Whatever I can get done in 3 days. For me, it’ll be a lot. You know me.

Why do I do this to myself? Part of my most-likely undiagnosed Adult ADHD is that although I can keep it pretty much together for most days, I attempt totally crazy and unimaginable things when I have a timeline. My mom, dad, stepmom, sister, brother in law, sister in law, neice, mother- and father in law, Helena, Lillian, myself and Ben will all be here for Easter. And since Lilly’s SECOND BIRTHDAY (you know it had to be in CAPS) is on Good Friday/Earth Day, we will also have an inpromptu birthday party for her on Easter, kind of a cake-and-she-won’t-remember kind of birthday. The best kind! Cake and memory loss. -Sigh!-

Anyway, I invited them all here so whereas the average rational person would say “pizza? Okay, ham, and everyone else just make something and bring it.” I’m already mulching the yard. Thinking about the terrible amount of drawers I have that are unorganized. (What if someone looks in them?!) Last night I put together shelves for Helena’s room, since, you know, I don’t want family thinking my 4-year-old’s toys are disorganized. AARGH. Why do I do this? Adult ADHD. And the thing that all moms seem to have, my friend Jen put it in perspective the other day. She invited some children over in the morning with a text message to their parents. And basically reminded us that we haven’t seen each other all winter because no one thought their house was clean enough. Oh, the things you miss when you’re worried about what other people think.

Where do you put your papers? For heaven’s sake, my house is overrun. I’m thinking of burning them all in the little fire pit and telling any bill collectors that come-a-callin’ next month “I never got it.” In the meantime, will you babysit for me? I’ll split some Hostas for you, while I’m out mulching. Might as well.

Sweet girl longs for the right "free" babysitter

Wow, are you and I ever alike. I do the same kind of crazy things, like inviting a bunch of friends over a week after we moved into our new house in order to force myself to unpack (it worked). Anyway, I am feeling overrun by everything these days, not just papers, so I called my mother and begged her to come stay with me for a week. Bless her and her grandmotherly goodness so I get a few hours to get things done while kids are awake and occupied.

Good luck getting it all done this week!
