one thing

This weekend I ran a race. My first race. Actually, I didn’t even run the race, since I want to be honest here, I did that thing where walking juuuuuust becomes jogging, while Carpenter ran sloooooowly next to me. And I didn’t think I could do it.

At the beginning of the race, I did my usual thing (I like to think I am pretty funny), which was mostly rubbing my backside and yelling to nearby runners “GET USED TO SEEING THIS!” Most of them laughed. All of them laughed, later, when I kind-of power-walked the whole thing. I jumped up on the mile marker that said “5 MILES” and took a photo, since it was a 5k and that was clearly for the 10K. I think by then it was about 1 mile into the race. Maaaaaybe 2.

Wanna know how I did it? I used every excuse why I couldn’t, then I found myself standing next to Carp at the starting line (starting mob, actually), and then I just put one foot in front of the other every step for 5 kilometers, which is about 3 miles, 188 yards. But who’s counting?

Anyway, I was pretty amazed that I could do it. And without Jillian Michaels yelling at me or anything! And guess what? That thing you’ve been avoiding? You can do it too. I know you can. In fact, I’m so sure you can do whatever you set out to do that I’ll even let you stand in front of me, smack your backside, and yell “GET USED TO SEEING THIS!

What do you need to just do? What are you telling yourself you can’t do?

Because: you CAN.

You CAN!
