holey september

It’s not the full moon. If you were wondering.

I’ve been so irritable lately. Just stressed. One of those weeks (or two) where you’re arguing all the time and you don’t know about what, even. Where you’re mad at your significant other because they can’t give you what you want–but you’re not sure what that is. It’s definitely been one of those weeks (or two) (or few).

I was feeling pretty rotten about that, when I began talking to my friends. They all said “YES! You’re right! I’ve been so annoyed lately. In a total funk.” And that got me thinking: maybe it isn’t me. Maybe it’s September.

Parents and people everywhere are busier in September than usual. It’s usually the beginning of a new quarter, in business. It’s back to school, which means not only getting settled into new schedules but more paperwork than you can dream of. And, it’s usually the beginning of seasons of all sorts–sports, dance, gymnastics–all starting up again in September. All of this rushing around (paired with requests for fundraisers galore, field trip parent sign-ups, and requirements about which shoes, backpacks, lunchboxes, clothes, tights, etc. you need to be up to code) can leave your nerves pretty frayed.

Maybe September, typically one of my favorite months, is actually a great sucking hole of commitments, new cub scout meetings, more soccer practice, busier business, faster driving, later mornings, yelling, fighting, up-late-at-nighting than the rest of the year. Which would definitely explain my mood, and the mood of the other parents and friends I’ve been talking with.

So what should we do? Usually I have a good, long, lovey answer. But tonight I’m going to keep it simple:

Wait for October. It’s almost here.

October: fall fun awaits

This is SO true, especially for our house where three of us are starting new schools right now, plus new extracurricular activities. You are spot on. For us it won’t get easier until midway through October, but I’m hanging on for dear life until we get there! Hope it’s better for you in just a few days… : )
