happy birthday to me, hitler, and charlie chaplin

by humanmama on April 17, 2013

It’s been hard for me to write, lately. I think about writing. I think about it when I get up with the baby at 5:45am. I think about it when I drive the big girls to school at 8:15. I think about it when I’m feeding the baby a bottle at 9, 12, 3, and 7. And sometimes at 4am. I think about it when I do the dishes. I think about writing when I’m folding laundry.

But something is stopping me. I want to say it’s life, but I’ve been a little down. And then the Boston thing happened, and it’s just been all I can do to get through.

It was my birthday this week. Again. And these are just some of the things that have happened on my birthday week:

Tim McVeigh bombed Oklahoma City (4/19/95)

The Virginia Tech shooting (4/16/07)

Columbine High School shooting (4/20/99)

Hitler’s birthday (4/20/1889)

I mean, come on. I guess that’s why I’ve been a little stalled. A little down. It’s a great day, but it’s a rough week in history. But then I got a flower. I got a card (a few!). I got a million emails and texts and posts on my FB page. And I remembered that it might be a rough week, but it was a good day. In fact, this was also the week Charlie Chaplin, that famous first silent, slapstick comedian, was born.

A great day.

So, I guess I’ve gotta write about it. Thanks, friends, for your support. I’ll be up writing like usual soon.

Maybe this week I’ll just be a famous, silent, slapstick comedian.
