christmas shoes

by humanmama on December 19, 2011

I hate the song “Christmas Shoes.” If you don’t live under a rock, and you’ve had any radio station on (well, besides Pandora) in the last few weeks, you’ve heard it…

“Sir, I wanna buy these shoes/ for my mama please/
it’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size…”

I HATE THIS SONG! I had written once before about the ridiculousness of Christmas songs, but this song takes the cake. Because they make a song I don’t want to hear at all, one which I feel has a so-so singer and an annoying refrain, into a song that makes me cry. Ooh, it makes me so mad.

Take any song (and this also applies to movies, books, etc.) and put a dying mother into it. Then put the song/movie/etc. in the voice of the kid:

“Daddy says there’s not much time….I want her to look beautiful/
if mama meets Jesus tonight….”

AAAAAAAAARHHHHHH! NOoooooooooo! Whether I want them to or not, the tears come.

Oh, they know how to sell those Christmas shoes. They sure do. Just find some sucker parents, right? Ahh. I gotta go hug my kids now. Merry Christmas.

Last year, still avoiding the radio...!

Right there with you on this one. As soon as I hear the first few words I change the station. Why would someone think that would make a good Christmas song?
