a month

by humanmama on February 11, 2013

Well, it has been a month. Not a month since I last wrote, but the days are slipping from me like sands through the hourglass, so to speak. In the last month, we’ve had the flu with three horribly sick throwing up kids with fevers (check!), Carpenter’s dad went to the hospital and is still there two weeks later (check!), my wallet got stolen, Carp’s truck broke down, and I fell down our back concrete steps and sprained my ankle (check!). Which does not bode well for motherhood, let me tell you.

I’m totally bewildered, perplexed–what did we do?! Where did we go wrong? I know what it was–one too many jokes at the Mayans’ expense about the world ending in 2012. Or, wait, it’s 2013! Unlucky thirteen, you say? That might be it. But actually, and sadly. It’s probably just our time again. 2010 had its very, very rough moments, deaths and sicknesses and hospital visits, and I guess it’s just our time again. “We’ve had a good run, eh?” I say as Carp and I lament the passing of good luck into bad.

The thing that’s the hardest is not letting it get you down. Life can be so, so good, but then there come those months (even years) that you feel like beating your fists at the sky, Charlton Heston-like, and screaming WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE SUCH PUNISHMENT?!?! You know (probably…deep down…) that its nothing you did, or deserve, but must a fact of life. You take the good, so they say, you take the bad. You take ’em both and there you have: the facts of life.

(Sorry, I could not resist.)

So I do what I’d want anyone else to do. Try to find the silver lining. Try to seek out that opened window that’s replacing all these shut doors in my face. And slowly I know it’ll get better: it always, always does.

But, in the meantime, you should probably stay far, far away from us. Just to be safe.

Oh my goodness!!! I knew about your ankle, but on top of all of that?! I had no idea. You are amazing, taking care of three kids without hubby while injured. If you need a MI care package of sorts, anything you’re craving/missing- give a shout! Hugs to you & the crew. ps- love love love this photo!
